F28069 and Communication Protocols

Hello Team,

I would like to get some clarity on what kind of software support the C2000 line of processors can offer for the following communication protocols:

Modbus
DeviceNet
Fieldbus (including Profibus/HART)

I have not seen much info in the way of app notes or software for any of these standards. For example, while I know we have the eCAN modules on chips like the F28069, I am not sure what software offerings are available to leverage that with a standard such as DeviceNet.

Can someone please provide some background on this?

Hi Ralph,

Modbus

F28335 supports Free-Modbus but is not testedwith F28069 - but should be possible.

DeviceNet

Not supported.

Fieldbus (including Profibus/HART)

Not supported. Though Third party chips can be interfaced for eg: gridconnect.com/profibus-controller.html

Ralph, the C2000 customer base doesn't seem to have much inclination towards the above protocols but Lori Heustess would be the perfect person to comment on that :)

Hi Ralph, Gautam,

Being a device used frequently in the industrial market, the C2000 customer base certainly has a need for the protocols you have mentioned (Modbus, DeviceNet, Profibus, HART, [and I'll add in CANopen]).

However, so far customers have largely developed the various protocol stacks, which their project requires, themselves or have worked with third-parties.

(P.S. in some C2000 E2E post, a poster did provide a link to an open-source Modbus implementation)
