Hi there,

I'm very new to this TI Launchxl F28069m. I'm trying to find the example of using usb communication, but do not find one. However, I've found the example of usb_dev_bulk for F28069m but not directly for this launchpad. I successfully compile and download the code to the board and connect the usb port from computer to the pin D-, D+ at the pin GPIO27, GPIO26 respectively and issue the command line "usb_bulk_example" but the program can't start because tiusbdll.dll is missing. I think the usb driver "usb_dev_bulk_x86.inf" is not installed. My questions are follows:

1. Do I need the Vbus for this particular example? or just D- D+ are okay?

2. How to install "usb_dev_bulk_x86.inf" ?

I do not need VBus in this example.

You can find the driver INF file at C:\ti\controlSUITE\device_support\f2806x\<version>\MWare\windows_drivers
Open device manager and install/update new software and browse to the inf file.

In order to use usb_bulk_example you need to open and build the tiusbdll Visual Studio example in controlSUITE. Then you can build and run usb_bulk_example.

You don't need Vbus if you have bypassed the isolation on the Launchpad and are able to supply USB power for the MCU.

However, I don't think the LaunchPad has a USB Host port...the USB on the LaunchPad just connect to an FTDI JTAG/UART chipset, it isn't routed to the F28069M at all.

You would need to use a TMDSCNCD28069ISO or 69MISO (IS-MOTION) for the USB Host connection.

I'm going to use GPIO 26, 27 for the USB port not the LaunchPad USB port which I'm using as the program/debug port. Is it going to work?

Hi Trey,

Do you have any suggested example for this application? I've tried "usb_dev_chicdc" in "C:\ti\controlSUITE\device_support\f2806x\v141\F2806x_examples_ccsv5\usb_dev_chidcdc", but yet had no luck. Previously I've tried "usb_dev_bulk" but later I realized that this example uses sci port not usb. I also try to install the usb driver in "C:\ti\controlSUITE\device_support\f2806x\v141\MWare\windows_drivers" in which I choose "TI USB Serial Command Prot ", but doesn't work. In the device manager the it said that the device cannot start (Code 10). I'm using window 7 by the way.

All of the USB examples should work. USB_dev_bulk does in fact use the USB port. If you're having trouble getting the examples running, Sal should be able to assist.

Please update your controlSUITE and use the latest device_support version. We no longer support usb_dev_chidcdc.

Please use the appropriate .inf driver file in the /windwos_driver folder of controlSUITE. If you are using the usb_dev_bulk example please use the usb_dev_bulk.inf and browse to that file in the device manager and update the driver or software.

I see. This new version is using USB port which is different from version v141 I have tried. I will try it. Thank you guys.

Hi Veerachai, did you ever get this working? I'm trying to do something similar: set up a USB port for communication somehow to the FM28069M chip.

I have not worked on this for a while, since I have no time on this issue. I've given up and used other simple solution like standard UART instead. Hope you can make it done!

Looks like it has been a year. You could use a controlCard which has a USB connector instead of the Launchpad.

Thank you for the response. So, USB isn't possible with the LaunchXL, then right? I need LaunchXL because I'm controlling two motors. I need a way to send messages to it and set modes, states, and velocity commands, then get feedback returned from the module. I'm not picky on protocol, but simple is better. If USB is not possible, how is the UART comms done? Do I need to wire off pins of the 28069 and configure them for UART? Are there examples of doing this anywhere?

Hi TJ,
UART is very simple to use, I think. Just follow the instruction manual or example. For this model, you can use the same USB connector that is used for programming to connect with UART, so no need for additional wire. Just have a look at manual "sprui11.pdf" on section 5.2 Serial Connectivity to set the jumper and configure the I/O accordingly.

You can look at some controlSUITE examples for SCI. sci_echoback will be a good example to start with. The mini-USB connector that is used for JTAG/Debug can also be used for UART or SCI communication.
