Best TI Processor for real time control of combustion engine.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28069, TMS320F28035

What's the best TI processor for real time engine control.

Surely you would need something with 2 processors otherwise you would have to switch the engine off to make changes ?

Can you do it with a Piccolo or will I need a Delfino ?

    As you've not mentioned about your other requirements but just a need for dual processors; I can recommend you to check Delfino part F28377D mcu which has Dual C28x cores (CPU1 & CPU2) and these 2 Cores have their respective CLAs (an additional processor with limited features). In short 2 C28x cores + 2 CLAs.

    Else, if CLA capability is enough; you can check Piccolo parts F28035 or F28069 which have 1 C28x core + 1 CLA.

    Let me know if you need more info.

  • Well a V8 fuel injected motor would at the minimum have to read the following;

    Crank angle pulse train ( max 10KHz)
    Camshaft synchronisation pulse train ( max 41Hz)
    Throttle position sensor (10Hz Analog))

    and output the following;

    PWM for 8 coils for spark (max 60Khz)
    PWM for 8 fuel injectors (max 60Khz)

    It would not be able to stop these operations or you would likely damage the motor.

    It would be OK to keep the 2 PWM outputs running at their previous ratios in the event of a problem but you couldn't just stop them.

    Would the Piccolo be able to handle this or would you need to use a Delfino ?
  • Piccolo can very well handle the above operations. You can very well try out the C28x with CLA combination.
    You can check out : TMS320F28035 & TMS320F28069
