Sensorless FOC of PMSM build levels

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LVSERVOMTR, DRV8312

Hello I am working with the 28069 chip on the DRV8312EVM board kit along with the motor provided in the kit. I have been going through the builds and have not been able to get the motor to run smoothly, it either vibrates rapidly or is very janky when spinning. I have been changing the values of Iqref and Vqtest and the speedref, while leaving the other variables the same. I have no idea what the units for these values are. I find the manual to be confusing and not very helpful. Is there someone out there who can maybe put it in simpler terms. Or who has worked through these builds that and gotten the motor running smoothly. Help is appreciated.

  • most all variables are in per unit (pu) values
yes, the motor runs smoothly for me, using the F28035 controlCARD. I haven't used the F28069 version in some time.

sensorless (sliding mode observer) based motor control is very difficult to get working well on a new motor. it's why we invented InstaSPIN-FOC. I highly recommend seeing if you can use that instead. TMDSCNCD28069MISO will work with your DRV8312 EVM and let you evaluate InstaSPIN-FOC and most of InstaSPIN-MOTION (some labs require an encoder like LVSERVOMTR )
