C2000 capabilities.

Hi everyone,

I'm completely new to this forum so please do bear with me. I have a question regarding the capabilities of the c2000. I understand that it has a quadrature encoder module. Can this be used to know the exact position of a motor running at 10000 rpm and also take care of the index channel. Any help will be appreciated.Thank you.

It depends on the specific device, the clock speed you are running the eQEP module at, and the number of pulses per revolution on the encoder you are using in addition to the motor speed. Typically C2000 devices require that the incoming eQEP pulse frequency be no more than half the eQEP internal clocking frequency. You need to check the datasheet for the specific device you are interested in. You can then calculate the pulse rate of your encoder based on the motor speed and the encoder counts per revolution (times 4 because it is quadrature) and see if it exceeds the allowable frequency for your device at the frequency you plan to run the device (eQEP) at.

So far as index channel goes, yes there is an index input pin on the eQEP modules.
