Using the new DRV8305 integrated driver, we are happy to announce availability of the 45V/15A BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM which is compatible with our InstaSPIN enabled LaunchPads.

Initial software support is for the LAUNCHXL-F28027F and included in the just released MotorWare v15. This includes all InstaSPIN-FOC projects.

Future software support will extend to the LAUNCHXL-F28069M in MotorWare v16 (by end of year). This includes InstaSPIN-FOC and InstaSPIN-MOTION.

When publish TI full datasheet on DRV8305? is have a question. Why used nFAULT in MotorWare 15 Lab5a(F28027F) in TZ2 mode?

click on DRV8305 and you can view the updated full datasheet.

the TZ pins are logic inverted. See the datasheet and notice the bar/line over the names.

I received today the new BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM. Also I tried a lab2A and Lab5b with the motor with MotorWare 15. I was surprised that at an error nFault the motor didn't stop and there was no error in the Motor-core. LED nFault was ON and Motor run. :(

regarding the control issue that was shown, you need to tune your speed regulator. using proj_lab05b try reducing the Kp and Ki speed gains by a factor of 10.

if you use proj_lab05a (and load your parameters from user.h) you should be able to verify that the current control loop is stable.

BTW - where in the video does the fault come on?
It looks like you did a full motor ID and got reasonable results. You then ran the motor and it was out of control, yes? That's when the Fault came on?

I have having to get another 27F LaunchPad to test in the lab. I sent all mine out for demos earlier this week.

In the meantime, can you give some more information.

How did you create the fault? If you read the DRV8305 registers what is the fault type?

Presumably a hard fault detected by the DRV8305 should shut down it's gate drivers and the motor would stop spinning as well a signaling to the controller. The DRV8305 also has a class of "soft" faults that are just warnings. You can see the datasheet for more information.

Thanks. The motor works with a smaller Kp more steadily and the еrrоr doesn't arise.

i set 1k RPM and later to 2K RPM and further get nFault.

I check in the lab here and the nFAULT to TZ works fine. C2k outputs disable immedietely on FAULT.

Can you ensure that S4 (serial switch) is configured properly. It should be in OFF position to allow nFAULT to report to C2k. The nFAULT lines shares with other signals on the LaunchPad and it is set by the switch.

Nick,
I set S4 to off.

I can stall a motor and get the BOOST to set the fault light. The motor kind of keeps spinning when I remove the load (but not at the correct speed). The fault stays on.

As soon as I select READ from the DRV8305 Tab in the INSTASPINUNIVERSALGUI it clears the fault and resumes proper operation.

also,
the PVDD_UVFL gets set and stays set. It only clears if I disable/enable the Flag_Run_Identify.

What is the behavior of the TZ in MotorWare? Is it latched or will operation resume if the pin returns high?

PVDD_UVFL is a warning flag from the DRV8305 (PVDD < 8V). The DRV8305 will continue operating but beginning toggling the nFAULT pin (56 us low, 56 us high) to indicate a warning flag has been set and set PVDD_UVFL bit to 1. A read from the SPI registers will clear the warning signal on the nFAULT pin.

One theory I have is that the PWMs from the C2000 are stopping and starting with the toggle of the nFAULT pin. I can check in the lab today.

yes, I think the PWM are also stopping and starting. It is why the motor somewhat keeps spinning at a lower speed than commanded.
