Hello,

I actually have a circuit mounted with a TMS320F28335. For the communication, I have an RS232 protocol implemented which runs correctly. I now have a request from a customer to replace this RS232 communication with an Ethercat. I don't know this protocol and needs help to know what I have to do (as well changing the PCB) and if there is a possible solution with this microcontroller.

Does someone have experience with this microcontroller and this communication protocol?

Is there application notes or documentations available?

Ethercat is real-time Ethernet protocol solution that is offered by Beckhoff, Germany. Beckhoff offers an ASIC ET1100 chip that can interface to DSPs like F28335.

The ASIC is capable of connecting to DSP via SPI or EMIF. However, DSP side needs a slave stack to talk to the protocol master on the link.
Beckhoff also offers a generic slave stack. The slave/master protocol is complicated, it needs good understanding of all the supported functions. Many of the existing TI F2833x control applications use this option.

TI also offers Ethercat solutions using Sitara AM335x/AM437x MPUs, that can interface to DSP/MCUs in many ways.

You can try these EVM/kits as well to meet wider functionality in your system.

I also want to add that we are aware of several customers who have successfully interfaced the '335 to the ET1100 including porting the EtherCAT stack.

We appreciate your request for an application note on this implementation from TI.
