c2000 f28027

AAQUIB REZA KHAN

Hi!!

I am using TI's C2000 tms320f28027 board.

I've been using this board since quite a time, and was also using putty for debugging process.

But suddenly today while debugging the program i got the error saying

"Error connecting to the target: (Error -1135 @ 0x0) The emulator reported an error. Confirm emulator configuration and connections, reset the emulator, and retry the operation. (Emulation package 5.1.507.0)".

Don't how this happened and what could be the possible case for this kind of error.

Then i noticed my main MCU chip is also getting overheated when i am powering the board. Also, i have been getting serial data in putty though it was garbage values.

So, please help me in finding what could be the possible reasons for this.

Aaquib,

Your statements suggest the device has been damaged. Could have been ESD for example. Who knows.

You can try the usual stuff to narrow it down if possible:

Try a different emulator. That will show if it is the emulator that has been damaged.

Try a different board.

Replace the F28027 on the board with a new chip. And so on.

Run the 'test connection' on the target configuration setup in CCS.

Even with different emulator, it gets overheated. May be i will change the chip.

Hi,

Did you check for shorts on the board? If not then... the MCU seems to be damaged and replacing the same seems the only option.

Even after replacing the F28027 chipi from the board, i am getting the same error as before.

Yes i Have checked for shorts. But there is no short between Vcc and GND , also i have replaced the F28027 chip.

Also, after replacing the part is the device getting overheated?

I am using the c2000 launchpad. And no, it is not getting overheated now. I am using another c2000 f28027 and burning the same code, it is working as usual, but this board is giving the same error.

Can you do a Test Connection (in target configuration file)? I feel there's some issue with your FTDI chip.

I'm not following what you are doing here. You previously stated you had tried a different emulator. If you are using the Launchpad, how did you use a different emulator? The emulator is built in to the Launchpad.

Also, you're getting an emulation connection error, but you say you are "Burning the same code" and "it is working as usual"? What do you mean here? How are you flashing the device when you cannot connect to it?

I am using another launchpad and burning the same code, it is working very fine on it. But the board on which i changed the F28027 ic i am again getting that error.

Aaquib,

It sounds then that something is damaged on the Launchpad. Since you have another Launchpad that works, we can assume your debugger setup is correct. Also, since you replaced the F28027 chip on the Launchpad and the problem still exists, that wasn't the problem. Seems like it could be the FTDI emulation chip as Gauntum was suspecting earlier, or maybe the isolation chips between the FTDI and the F28027. These are open boards, and the components are exposed. Chips can be easily damaged by ESD. Who knows.

To be practical Aaquib, this is a cheapo board, $17 USD I think. I'd just scrap it and call it a day. Your time trying to debug and then fix the board just isn't worth it.
