InstaSPIN BLDC Gui - Startup Control

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INSTASPIN-BLDC

I'm using the DRV8301-HC-C2-KIT and I'm trying out the InstaSPIN-BLDC GUI.  On the settings tab, there is a section labeled "Startup Control."  Is there a method (besides randomly trying different settings) to tune the various settings (Startup Duty Cycle, Startup Ramp time, Ramp Start speed, etc.)?

  • Hi Eric,

Some years back I did a video describing the features of the InstaSPIN-BLDC GUI.  You can access it here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9XWL4NDtnU

In the video, I explain the operation of each of the Startup Control features.  Unfortunately, there isn't any set way to adjust the Startup Control options since it is dependent on your load.  The Startup duty-cycle is determined by your torque loading, and the Ramp time is determined by your load inertia.  There is also the Advanced Startup option which bypasses the ramp time altogether.  When enabled, it keeps trying to start the commutation engine until the estimated commutation times match the actual open-loop commutation times withing an error limit that you specify.

    Hope that helps...
