What is Iq ( Current Control / Torque Mode Lab 04)

I am not well versed with the equations for controller a BLDC motor. I see in Lab 04, we are changing the value of Iq to change the reference for the current controller.  So my question is what is this Iq that we are setting in relationship to Idc ( ie the dc bus current) and/or in relationship to phase current in rms or peak values ( for sinusoidal) ? Also, since we have current sensors and the numbers are entered in user.h to scale actual current values to voltage values seen by the ADC, i am guessing there must be a clean relationship between Iq set to the desired  Idc ( ie the dc bus current) and/or motor phase current in rms or peak values (  for sinusoidal)

thanks
