Defective docking board TMDXDOCK28377D-F28377D Delfino Experimenter Kit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

I was instructed by TI customer care to post the issue in this forum on a defective product I purchased from TI Store. I must wait for a TI engineer to respond to this post confirimg this item is defective in order for Texas Instruments customer care to send a replacement.

I purchased the TMDXDOCK28377D-F28377D Delfino Experimenter Kit. I setup up a simple servo control circuit using a potentiometer to control a small little servo motor.

The Problem

When using any of the even numbered ADC pins it will not work.  When I use any of the odd ADC pins it works just fine.

Problem seems to be a defective docking board.

So now I will wait for a response.

Thank you.

  • Hi Mike,

Just one thing I would like you to try; check with this example: C:\ti\controlSUITE\device_support\F2837xD\v180\F2837xD_examples_Cpu1\adc_soc_continuous

    Regards,
    Gautam
  • Okay I have tried this example. What now?

  • Hi Michael,

Can you clarify how the even channels fail? Do they produce a voltage that is inaccurate, or do they completely not work? If you have more than one docking board, can you confirm if this does/doesn't work with the same ControlCard and same code in a different dock? If you have another ControlCard, can you confirm if this does/doesn't work in the same dock with the same code? I think what Gautam was getting at was to try an experiment like this:

Apply a DC voltage on one of the odd ADCA channels. This could be anything in the middle of the ADC range, say 1V. This doesn't have to be particularly accurate source, but do use something with low impedance and not too much noise, and confirm the voltage being forced on the pin with a DMM. Sample the voltage using the ADC with any of the TI provided ADC examples (SW triggering, ePWM triggered, or continuous conversions). Record the voltage and conversion results, then change the voltage to something else, say 2V. Again, record the voltage and conversion results. No repeat the two voltage test with an odd channel on ADCA. Now repeat the two channels of testing two voltages each on another ADC, say ADCB. This should give a pretty good picture of what is and isn't working.
  • They do not work at all. I do have another control card and I get the same results on the docking board. I also did try your second method already by applying a DC voltage to the ADC pin on the docking board and I am not getting any readings at all on the even numbered side of the board. I do get readings on the odd numbered pins.

I get no reading when connected to (  ADC-B0 through ADC-B5  ),  (  ADC-D0 through ADC-D5  ). These ADC channels are all on the even numbered pins of the docking board.

  • Can you try two things:
-Apply a voltage to pin 12 - ADCB0 on the dock. Measure with a DMM the two (non populated) pads for C25 on the ControlCard to see if the voltage makes it through to the card.
-Measure the VREFHI voltage to ADCB. Where you do this I think depends on the ControlCard revision, but do this after the output of any switches that select the VREFHI.
  • I put voltage on pin 12 of the docking board. I measure no voltage on the C25 pads.

I measured what would be pin 12 inside the J3 socket and I have no power.

It appears that the J3 socket is faulty because I performed the same procedure on pin 9 which is ADC1 and I measure a voltage on the pin inside the J3 socket.

I am convinced this is the problem.

I would greatly appreciate it if we can resolve this issue ASAP. I am a Engineering student and I am using all TI hardware for my project that is due May 10, 2016. I have a bunch of programing to get done and so far I have wasted over a week dealing with this. Can you please expedite this processes.

This back and forth with, try this, now try this, trouble shooting is that much more time I don't have to finish my project.

    Thank you

  • TI Customer Care:

This produce appears to be defective. Please send Michael a new dock. If possible, please also provide a pre-paid and pre-addressed envelope to ship the defective dock to me for failure analysis.

    Michael,

We didn't want to send you a dock and have you wait for it to arrive, only to find that the dock was not the issue. You have convinced me that it is indeed defective, but historically this would not be a likely resolution to a customer having an issue converting on some of the ADC channels. Please keep me posted with any issues that you encounter with the new dock or the ADC in general, and please feel free to return to the e2e forum with any additional questions we can help you with.
  • Much Thanks. I do appreciate the help.
