Information about the DRV8312-C2-KIT

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8312, BOOSTXL-DRV8301, INSTASPIN-BLDC

Hello,

I would like information about the DRV8312-C2-KIT "Three Phase BLDC Motor Kit with DRV8312 and Piccolo MCU".

I need to know if the software demo provided allows you to run drills up to 40000 rpm in BLDC mode

Thank you

  • Hi Paolo,

Can you provide the motor parameters? (model number, R, L, I, # of pole pairs)

I have seen reference to motors running up over 40k rpm.
  • Our motors have the following features:

    Motor1: R=2.13 Ohm L=120uH I=3.5A PolePairs=1
    Motor2: R=2.43 Ohm L=145uH I=3.0A PolePairs=1

the required speed from 100 to 40000 rpm

it is possible for me to realize this application with your kit?

    thank you

  • Hi Paolo,

It appears to be possible, although you may run into problems with the current limits of the DRV8312. The BOOSTXL-DRV8301 may be a better fit.

Please refer to LINK1 and LINK2 for tips.

In particular, note the comment in LINK2:

How low of inductance?  You probably need to increase your PWM frequency significantly. Most low inductance BLDC speed controllers run at 60-72 KHz.

Do you know how much flux this motor has? Max current under load? Bus voltage?

You may want to consider using InstaSPIN-FOC or InstaSPIN-MOTION.  You can simply use a different controlCARD with your DRV8312 board, but if you are using a <=24V bus or very low flux motors you will want to change the inverter hardware to BOOSTXL-DRV8301 and use LAUNCHXL-F28027Ffor the controller.

For instaSPIN questions, please post on the microcontroller C2000 forum.

  • Dear support, I am colleague of Paolo Colombari.

I have the TI DRV8312EVM Rev.D kit and CC2803x iso dimm.

I have programmed the InstaSPIN-BLDC_GUI_DRV8312_v104.out firmware and used the related application .

My motor have 1 pole pair, and in the setting TAB it isn't possible to select a 2 pole.

Anyway with InstaSPIN-BLDC_GUI_DRV83xx_v104.exe, I'm able to drive the motor up to a speed of approximately 30k rpm (displayed 15k )

How can I test the motor wih 2 pole and 40k rpm ?

How can I find the file source of InstaSPIN-BLDC_GUI_DRV8312_v104.out firmware ?

    Thanks

  • Hi Stefano,

Your question will be moved to the C2000 forum for better support. The algorithm experts reside there.
