debugging with Elprotronic FlashPro-2000

Hi all,

I am familiar with MSP430 MCU and I use MSP-FET430UIF JTAG to flash and debug with IAR.

Now I am working with a C2000 Piccolo (F2803x) and I would know if I can debug with FlashPro-2000 or if I need to use the XDS100v2 debug probe (20pin c TI header) for this. There are no EMU pin on my MCU and I am using CCSv6.1

From the Elprotronic website, the Piccolo family of F2803x devices are supported in FlashPro-2000. So to answer your question, yes you should be able to debug with FlashPro-2000 on your C2000 Piccolo.

However, should you run into any kind of issues, please feel free to respond to this thread if you need any help switching over to using the XDS100v2 debug probe.

To add some clarification, my response above refers to the FlashPro-2000 debug probe (hardware). Should you use this probe, you would need to use the FlashPro-2000 software in order to develop and compile onto your C2000 device. Should you decide to use the XDS100v2 probe, I would recommend using CCS for development and debug.

Hope you know that FlashPro-2000 is not a debugger. It is a Flash programmer. You can not compile/debug using FlashPro-2000. It supports both JTAG and SCI for Flash programming.

Regarding the EMU pins: As you know F2803x devices does not have EMU pins. If you have a JTAG header on-board, then you should tie EMU0/EMU1 pins on the header to VDDIO.

As Kyle mentioned, you can use CCS to compile, program and debug for development. You can choose any emulator. If you are using control card, you can use XDS100V2.

Thanks for the clarification and the advise about EMU pins (I didn't see any connection recommendation in case they are missing).
Currently I have worked with DRV8412 and control card for F28035 and I will go with the XDS100v2 debug probe (TMDSEMU100V2U-20T) to debug my design.

I know this is not on the right forum but the links to the JTAG 20pins header/receptacle models are no more valid on the Wiki pages (XDS_Target_Connection_Guide, JTAG_Connectors, etc.). And from my point of view the connector chosen could have been more popular and easy to obtain (...My mistake, I was talking about the header but this is the male one which is more easier to get that we needed on board).

Yes, you would need to use the XDS probe to debug with CCS. CCS supports a variety of different debug probes including the XDS100v2. However, the Flash-Pro 2000 Debug probe is not supported in CCS. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

This recommendation is provided in section 6.6 Emulator Connection Without Signal Buffering for the MCU of the datasheet as a special note.

Can you point to the specific links that have invalid JTAG 20pin header/receptacle models in the wiki pages that you pointed?
