ezdsp heating issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28335

I am using ezdsp tms320f28335 kit , when i flash the program and code is running PS767D301 ic start heating and  as soon as i stop the running code it comes to normal temperature.

  • Hi Akshay,

This can happen due to couple of issues: either too much current is sucked out of the LDO(PS767) or LDO is in the verge to get damaged. Try powering the board from external supply to check the current consumed. Better replace the LDO itself : only if the IC surface is burning hot.

  • Have you added any additional hardware to the eZdsp kit? If so, they may be drawing excess current from the LDO. How about the F28335 chip itself? If it is hot, it is possible it has suffered from Electrical-Over-Stress (EOS) damage. This is likely if you had connected some external circuit and it loaded the o/p buffer of a GPIO pin way more than its rated current. ICs become warm-to-the-touch during operation, which is normal. But if it becomes so hot that you cannot touch it (and the manufacturer has not recommended heat-sinks or cooling fans), then some part of the board is drawing excess current.
