Does the TMS320F28379D support two serial encoders, simultaneously

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28379D

Hi all,

I'm investigating the possibility of using the TMS320F28379D to interface with two Endat 2.2 encoders, one from each core. Does the CLB/user libraries support this?

  • Hi Spencer,

Current PositionManager solution does not support more than one EnDat22 interface.
There could be future offerings with this capability - not planned at this stage.
  • Subrahmanya,

Thank you for the answer, though I'm a bit confused. I thought that the term "Position Manager" referred to the Design Drive IDK. Does it refer to the hardware capability of the actual mcu part? Also, can I use the CLA to drive the endat communication?

  • Spencer,

Thanks for your interest in Position Manager solution. Position manager is a Hardware+Software capability. As you've rightly observed CLB is the underlying hardware and the Position Manager is set of software libraries utilizing this hardware (+other modules) in implementing the EnDat/BiSs etc, position encoder interfaces.
To answer your question about CLA - Yes, CLA can theoretically drive EnDat communication, but the PositionManager library released as of now is for the CPU only. We, in future, may release CLA version as well.
