[LAUNCHXL-F28069M] Out-of-the-box temperature issue

Hi,

My company has bought a F28069M LaunchPad. We have plugged in our USB port in Windows 7 and we just wait a few seconds. The temperature rises up to 125°C very quickly. We understood what the temperature was when we installed the driver on a second hand, and tried the project 0 temperature test www.youtube.com/watch. Not sure it is a driver issue as I get the same problem of burning my fingers when touching the MCU when plugging my card on Ubuntu 14.04 or on another Windows 7 machine, where drivers are not installed.

What should I do? Get a new one? Flash it? Has it happened to anyone?

Thank you in advance and have a good day,

Guillaume

  • Hi Guillaume,

This is abnormal behavior for the launchPAD.

This type of thing may happen when the chip or the launchPAD is damaged.  This could be because of ESD damage done to the board, some type of board short, or some other similarly bad issue.

    Question:
Were you able to use the launchPAD for any amount of time before he temperature problem started occurring?  Or did the problem show up immediately out of the box?

    Thank you,
    Brett
