Equivalent CPU Selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSBIOS, TMS320F28035

Hi

I am using TMS320F28035, 80 pin package in an embedded system. We use all its pheripherals and gpios. We now use sysbios and want to upgrade to a higher ram model e.g. 128K or 256K. I have compared variants of the C2000 series and have found a number of apparently equivalent micros.

I want your expert opinion on micros that will require minimal hardware changes and offer higher ram.

Much appreciate your reply.

  • Jawwad,

The simplest move from a migration point of view is probably to F28069.  That device is very similar for F28035 and there are 80-pin packages, so your layout and software changes will be minimal.  There is a migration guide here:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprabj2/sprabj2.pdf

That will take you to 100KB (note "bytes", not "words") of RAM.  If that's not enough you'll need to think about something like F28377S.  That is a newer device with up to 164KB of RAM, but the change will involve more work (e.g. there is no 80-pin version).  There isn't a relevant migration guide yet, unfortunately.

  • Hi Richard,
    Thanks for the info.
I compared all models, price, performance, ram, flash and really ur mentioned models appear best buy. Probably F28377S is what I am looking at. Migration may take some effort but higher RAM size will allow ease of use with Sys Bios.
