New to TMSF28335 Can Communication

Hello Everyone,

I'm starting a project where i need to communicate , via CAN, with a control Module. And i've never worked with CAN so i'm a bit lost.

I'm using a TMS320F28335 ( the experimental Kit ) and i have a couple of doubts about how to implement the communication :

- Do i need external transceiver in order to create the can BUS or the experimental kit already have that integrated?

- DO i need to concern myself with the voltages on the CANH and CANL or it is standard for all devices?

- Does anyone knows a good tutorial to get me started on how to work with CAN ? Both the hardware part and software.

For Experimenter's kit you need extra Transceivers they don't have it on-board.

Logic level is all that matters. You can integrate with any 3.3V systems.

For CAN basics there are lot of reference online. As for C2000, controlSuite sample example is all that you've.

Thank you for the reply.

As for the transceiver i can use something like a SNx5HVD251 right ?
I want to develop a simple board to interface the development kit and the CAN bus.

Yes BD, the above part number would be suitable for what you plan to achieve.

In the datasheet it is stated that VIH for D is 0,7*VDD.
The DSP pins logic levels work at 3.3V right. Am i correct to assume that this will be a problem ?

Supply voltage: VCC min 4.5 max5.5 V
High-level input voltage: VIH D input 0.7*VCC
Low-level input voltage; VIL D input 0.7PVCC

If the VCC is 5V than the VIH min value is 3.6V. The logic high from the DSP is 3.3V

Did i understood this correctly ?

Yes, you're right. Its for a 5V supply and not 3.3V. This part number is C2000 friendly :) "SN65HVD234DR"
