InstaSPIN --- whether can do 700Hz electrical frequency control

Hi C2000 champion

My customer want to use InstaSPIN FOC in centrifugal compressor control, information as below:

Device: F28062F

PWM: 6KHz

Power rate: 200KW

Poles: 2 pairs

Speed target: 350Hz mechanical frequency

Motor Rs/Ls/Flux isn't ready yet.

1. Can you suggest whether F28062F InstaSPIN FOC can support this high speed control? and what is the max speed this solution can meet.

2. Whether InstaSPIN used in 200KW level application before? any caution need to pay attention?

  • Eric,
Yes, no problem to control 700 Hz electrical. There is a minimum requirement of 8x the max frequency = 5.6 KHz for the control and estimator frequencies, so 6 KHz PWM (with 6 KHz control and estimator rates) is just barely meeting that requirement. It would be better if you could run the loops at 8 KHz minimum, so an 8 KHz PWM. But you can try them both out.

InstaSPIN-FOC has been used in MW applications.

You always need to pay attention in these sort of power levels. I would make sure the voltage and current signals are high quality and of appropriate resolution.
