Starting With TMS320F28335 - Introductory Guide

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28335

I'm going to be using the TMS320F28335 in a project, to be coded in C.

I have experience with the ST Micro STM320F (ARM CORTEX-M3) series, from a C perspective.

For that series, there's an excellent introductory guide called "Insider's Guide to the STM32 ARM Based Microcontroller" which breaks down features, components and their uses (from a programmer's perspective).  Is there any similar guide for the delfino series?  If not, can someone recommend an appropriate guide that will help familiarize me with the delfino?  I'm not looking for an "engineer's view" or guide, but rather something designed to teach and get me up to speed on the delfino series easily.  Perhaps something with various code examples (in C) that teach me use of timers, interrupts, initialization, floating point features, etc as applied to this line?  In case this was not clear, I'm not looking for the "100 page" document on interrupts, or on floating point - I'm looking for the "general overview" guide made for programmers who are new to this series.

One more question... is there an RTOS available for the delfino, such as the equivalent to FreeRTOS?

    Lew,

I suggest starting with some material on the C2000 Wiki http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:C2000

In particular, there is an archived workshop for the 2833x devices that will go over much of the device's features:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/C2000_Delfino_Multi-Day_Workshop

After that, I suggest looking at some of the other getting started links:

    C28x devices are supported by DSP/BIOS http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/DSP/BIOS_for_C2000

    Lori

  • Lori - Thank you so much for the links.  The one-day workshop (online materials), leading up to the multi-day workshop (online materials), is exactly what I was looking for... a quick "let's do something useful" guide followed by a more comprehensive approach.  I'll take a look at the RTOS you suggested, as well.  What threw me off was that the RTOS is named "DSP/BIOS" - and to me, BIOS means something entirely different.  I would not have thought, from the name, that it contained what I wanted.

Thanks for taking the time to provide links and all.
