F28035 failure

Champs

My customer used the F28035 in their digital power supply. When the output power of power supply reach a point. The all the function of F28035 will failure. The interrupt service, communication interface and watchdog cannnot work. even the XCLKOUT will go high. The F28035 cannot recover from this status until a power reset. Could you help give some suggestion about what can cause this failure? Thank you.

  • Hi Victor,

This is due to propagation Noise that is affecting the controller. One needs to eliminate the same by abiding to design rules while designing a power converter/supply. Blaming F28035 in the above case doesn't make any sense and hence I would like you to monitor the 3.3V supply line to the DSO at that output power point. Check whether there are noisy voltage swings from 0-3.3V.

Do you mean that even after lowering the power the controller doesn't recover or have they not tried the same?

when the F28035 failure the output of the power supply will be shuntdown. But even the converter did not work, the F28035 still cannot recover until a power on reset.

  • Did your customer monitor the supply lines?
  • Victor,

We probably need more information to find the root cause of the problem. Can you please answer the following questions

    1) Do you see device repeatedly resetting itself?
1a) If you don't see device resetting itself. Can you try providing a warm reset externally and see whether device recovers?
    2) Are you able to connect to the device and Where is your PC?
    3) As Gautham suggested, please monitor the voltage rails when the device enters this state.

    Regards,

    1) Do you see device repeatedly resetting itself?   Victor->No. They can see the TRST pin always high.
1a) If you don't see device resetting itself. Can you try providing a warm reset externally and see whether device recovers? Victor->After they drive the TRST to low manually, the F28035 can recover.
    2) Are you able to connect to the device and Where is your PC? Victor->They can only through isolated CAN to conenct the device.
    3) As Gautham suggested, please monitor the voltage rails when the device enters this state. Victor->The 3.3V is OK. they can see a 300mV ripple on 3.3V no mater the output power is high or low.

  • Victor,

Did you mean XRSn? TRST is JTAG test reset.

It is important to understand the state of the device to resolve this issue. Can you have customer connect to device using JTAG?

Also, 300mv ripple on VDDIO is very high. I'm wondering whether BOR reset is kicking in.

    Regards,

    Manoj

Thank you for your help. Sorry, it is XRSn. Because the their converter worked under 400V bus, it is very diffcult to connect the JTAG when the power still on. Do we have any suggest to investigate the root cause?
