TMDSSOLARUINVKIT: Problems to test the KIT

Part Number: TMDSSOLARUINVKIT

Hello, I started to test this developlment kit and I followed the instructions to tested this kit. I followed the instructions to connect the jumpers, + 15V DC and +12 V DC external isolated bias supply, USB cable, control card. First I tried to test the fly back converter in open loop mode (BUILD = 1). I used a DC Power supply and I adjust the parameters, Vin = 30 V, and I limit the current to 1 A.

I didn't connect the load (resistence) because I wanted to see that lecture (Window Populated using Script) of voltage was correct to the input, then when I connected the power supply the voltage to the input dropped almost 2 volts and the converter consumed all the current (1A).

I think that something is wrong in the electronic card. Can you help me please to know which is the possible issue?.

Note: The development kit is new and is the first time that I use this kit

Thanks for your time.

  • Manuel,

I would recommend that you follow the user guide , and as it instructs to connect a load res please do so.

Also what step no. in the build level 1 you observe this? The UG instructs to not have the voltage applied (you can connect the wires but have no voltage generated) untill you start running the code.

It's only on step 15 we ask to slowly raise the input voltage, is this when you raise the voltage you are unable to go beyond 2V because you hit over current ?
  • I followed the steps of user guide that you recomend me to make but the problem continues. I used a multimeter to check the input of converter (without connect any voltage in all board)and I detected the input short circuit (multimeter in continuos mode). I think that is the reason that the converter doesn´t works beacuse the problem is on the electronic board.
I followed the next step to tested the inverter in open loop check (build=1) and it works well, but I have a problem also, becuase when I increse the voltge in the input (180 VDC aproximatly) the "Code Composer Studio" stop working and I need to close all program (CCS) because It doesn´t work.

    Then, I have three questions:

1.- What Can I do in case that the electronic board is damage (Damage of factory)?
2.- With whom can I address to check the warranty?
3.- What Can I do to solve the other problem with Inverter?

    Thanks for your time.

  • Tlapa,

Did you have any feets attached with the board/ bump ons that lift the board slightly from the bench surface on the bottom side ?

Some times keeping the board on a conductive surface can damage,

    1. I am still trying to asses the the damage , we will take action based on the determination and root cause
    2. There is no warranty associated with the EVMs
    3. I would recommend using a ferrite bead , see section 4.3 www.ti.com/.../tiduay6a.pdf , this worked fairly well with this design
