WEBENCH® Tools/DRV8301-69M-KIT: DRV8301-69M-KIT:

Part Number: DRV8301-69M-KIT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,
I am trying to modify the KIT to run a 48V BLDC motor at 200 Amps (approx 9500 RPM). Should this be possible?
I am planning to reduce the shunt-resistors by a factor of 10 and then increase the gain in the OP-Amp stage, but am concerned about noise issues or saturating the A/D converter.

Other suggestions or thought how to approach this problem?

  • Not only noise and saturation of ADC, and you have to consider thermal of board, current capacity of power line, Continuous Drain Current of MOSFET. Actually, DRV8301-HC board can't support such high current for MOSFET limited, especially for long time running.
  • Thankyou, yes those are all factors I will consider. But prior to go for our own layout I would like to prototype a 200A redesign of key parts like MOSFET and Shunt, but running at a much lower current say 40A, and make sure noise and adjustment of the current sensing path will not cause unexpected problem. I would assume the current sensing feedback gain needs to be adjusted somehow?

  • The smallest gain of DRV8301 is 10, and it's default also, you can only replace the shunt resistor with a smaller one. Actually, the kit is a evaluation board, the route of PCB layout is not the best one for your reference, you have to pay attention to PCB layout designing for sample signal deal circuit more carefully also.
