Can InstaSPIN Encoderless Control Cover Surface PM Motor without Rotor Saliency at Zero Speed and Very Low Speed withholding Full Torque?

Dear all,

I would like to evaluate whether InstaSPIN encoderless control can control Surface PM Motor without Rotor Saliency at Zero Speed and very low speed withholding Full Torque.

In below TI's InstaSPIN web, "Initial (Zero Speed) Position Detection, Low Speed Position Detection, Limitations" sections, seems that InstaSPIN could only be only apply to the motor with Built-in Saliency in "Low Speed". But it can detect the rotor "Initial Position" for all Surface PM Motor type (including the motor without saliency) using high frequency injection method. I do not know whether my understanding is correct or not.

I would like to get some clarification on InstaSPIN's encoderless torque production capability for zero and low speed.

Thanks for your sugggestion.

  • Existing IPD&HFI in instaSPIN only supports IPM with saliency, sensorless FOC algorithm is difficult to run motor with full load in zero or very low speed stably as sensor FOC.
