DRV8301-69M-KIT: Bare minimum schematic design parts

Part Number: DRV8301-69M-KIT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301, BOOSTXL-DRV8301, LAUNCHXL-F28027F

Hello,

I would like to design my own schematic of the DRV8301-69M/F kit.

I have already got the kit however I would like create a bare minimum board of it.

I will essentially only use a pot, 2 buttons and few LEDs.

The app is really simple. Start and Stop with speed control with the pot.

Therefore, I will not be using SPI,CAN, QEP/CAP etc.

So, I need to double check with the experts out there,

1-Do I need to populate the following?

U2,U3,U4 - voltage reg and CAN

U5 - SPİ

U7 - QEP/CAP

2-Other components that I can remove?

Many thanks

Nobel

  • Nobel-

    As you said:
U2 & U3 provide isolated output voltage references, which for the DRV8301 EVM RevD only supply the Isolated CAN & SPI buses
U4 & U5 are the isolation ICs for the SPI and CAN buses
U7 is the voltage-level translator for the eQEP/CAP buses

None of these are strictly required for sensorless FOC, you may omit them if you do not want their functionality.

Additionally, if you have no need of the PWM DAC, you can remove the RC filter components at those outputs.

  • I would recommend starting with the BOOSTXL-DRV8301 + LAUNCHXL-F28027F schematics rather than the DRV8301-69M kit if you want bare minimum. You can use whatever size MOSFETs you need to achieve your power requirements, but there are far fewer components on these boards, and the schematics are available on TI's website.
