TMS320F28374D: difference between PPB offset correction and error calculation

Part Number: TMS320F28374D

I know that offset correction is that you can minus the offset pass the result to ADCRESULT register, what's error calculation for? And I suppose these two things can be done in software, so what's the point to do it in hardware?
