TMS320F2812: The maximum Low-level output sink current.

Hi all,

According to Recommended Operating Condition table of F2812 datasheet, the maximum Low-level output sink current IOL is 4mA(not Group 2) and maximum Low-level output voltage is 0.4V. Is there any characteristics chart of IoL V.S. VoL please?

If my customer must apply 6mA to pins GPIOF6(CANTXA) and GPIOF7(CANRXA), what will happen? From my point, the maximum Low-level output voltage could be up to 0.6V, am I correct? Will 6mA I/O current damage F2812?

Please advise your idea if any, thanks for your help.

     could you clarify why customer "must apply 6 mA"? what circuitry is connected to those pins?

    Our recommendation is to change the resistors to maintain <4mA on these IO pins. This is the most straightforward option.

     

    We do not have an IOL vs. VOL curve. We can only assure VOL=0.4v @ IOL<=4mA from our device characterization and test data. Any single unit can (and most likely will) perform better than this, but we can not assure it or extrapolate to different conditions.

     

    The F2812 was qualified under the Recommended Operating Conditions. Operating beyond these conditions may degrade the lifetime of the device. The amount of deviation from the ROC, time spent under these conditions, temperature, and many other factors will influence how much (if any) lifetime reduction; however we do not have the ability to speculate on this for the customer since there are so many variables.

     

    If the application is for a high reliability or extended lifetime application then I would not recommend this configuration. If the application is not on 100% of the time or can tolerate failures over time then the customer may find this acceptable. This has to be the customer’s risk decision.
