TMS320F28374S: Condition for specified ENOBs

Part Number: TMS320F28374S

Hello,
what are the conditions for the specified ADC ENOPs (d/s page 101)? Gain and offset corrected?

Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

For the ENOB conditions, only offset is corrected as this is a trimmable parameter but not for gain.  Indirectly, we try to compensate for gain by ensuring that the input peak signal does not clip or go beyond VREFHI value + gain.

    Joseph

  • Hello Joseph,
this means that the ENOB number could be improved by gain correction. Right?
May be you should include the information that the ENOB numbers in the d/s includeds the offset correction.

    Regards, Holger
  • Hi Holger,

I do not anticipate ENOB to improve that much with gain correction as the +/-5 LSB gain error tolerance is negligible compared to the 12-bit conversion range. Key to attaining higher ENOBs is best layout practices on the ADC circuit that includes isolation of noisy digital signals, stable voltage reference and proper selection of input RC to account for input signal settling. Ensuring that the input signal does not clip to VREFLO or VREFHI levels is also important, otherwise when the signals clip, these will show up as harmonics and would greatly reduce ENOB.

Good point on the offset correction note. Will plan to add that in the footnote for ENOB.

    Thanks,
    Joseph
