TMS320F28379D: About ADC simultaneous conversion

Part Number: TMS320F28379D

Hi,

I have launchpad TMS320F28379D. It has 15 ADCIN and they are indicated with the letters A, B and C.

My question is: how many acquisitions can I do simultaneously at the same instant of time t? Only 3 (one for  A, one for B and one for C), 15 (Using 15 different SOC, one for each ADCIN) or none (they are all sequential)??

Thanks for reply.

  • Nobody can help me? The conversion are or aren't simultaneous? From the datasheet I don't understand
  • Hi Biagio,

There are 4 ADCs on F2837x devices.  Channels connected to ADC-A are labeled as A0, A1, A2, etc.  for ADC-B they are labeled as B0, B1, etc.  Channels IN14 and IN15 can be sample by any ADC.  Each ADC has 16 possible input channels (0 to 15) but not all of these are pinned out.  Some are connected to internal only signals (e.g. temp sensor).

On a given ADC, channels must be converted sequentially. e.g. channels A0 and A1 must be converted sequentially.  Channels from different ADCs can be sampled in parallel.  So if you want 2 simultaneous conversions, you might use channels A0 and B0.

Note that for best performance, it is necessary to operate the ADCs in lock-step.

  • Hi Master Devin,
Thanks a lot for the answer, now I understand everything.
Only one last thing, to connect IN14 to ADC-D SOC0, I just have to set AdcdRegs.ADCSOC0CTL.bit.CHSEL=14; ? or are there other reg to set?
  • Hi Biagio,

Yeah, that should be all you have to do; there are no muxes to set. In fact, you can sample the same signal on multiple ADCs at the same time using IN14 or IN15 (this might be helpful if you want to trim out any differences between the ADCs).
