DRV8301-69M-KIT: motor only spins under load, normal?

Part Number: DRV8301-69M-KIT

Hi there,

i have drv8301-69m kit and a low inductance bldc motor therefore i use the proj_lab2c.  The motor spins only with load, is this normal? Without load the motor turns stuttering and make strange noises, the current is about 1A. With low load the motor needs only 0.5A and i can only reach about 4A, but i know 20A should be possible. What should i change?

thanks in advance

Here is a picture from the GUI

  • hi,
    with lab5b the motor turns but not smooth. It's a 7polepair 950KV 12V 20A(not continuous) outrunner.
  • I estimate it's a low inductance motor therefore i used the lab2c , when i tried the lab2a the motor spun. I have another motor that runs great with lab5b.

Also i think the values of motor identifications are incorrect. -> ISC=84834A  Ld_s=1.12mH Flux=0.0055Wb

  • The voltage and current sensing circuit of DRV8301-69M-KIT is too high to run the motor without any loading, the sampling resolution of voltage and current is not good to run the motor well. You need to use lab02c to identify the parameters of low inductance motor. and you can try to use BOOSTXL-8301 or BOOSTXL-8305 to run the motor.
  • ok, thank you. I used the lab02c to indentiy the parameters, but the motor is bouncing wildly after the ramp. Another motor of mine works great, with the same voltage(12V) but its no-load current is much higher, about 4A . Is that the difference?

How high should the current and the voltage be to get a good resolution?
I thought the sampling resolution was scaling through the "USER_IQ_FULL_SCALE_VOLTAGE_V" and "USER_IQ_FULL_SCALE_CURRENT_A". Isn't that so?
