TMS320F28374S: Schmitt Trigger Buffer

Part Number: TMS320F28374S

Dear,

I am reading szza043 (Use of the CMOS Unbuffered Inverter in Oscillator Circuits) and looking at figure 24. May I use the oscillator even without the inverter buffer with Schmitt Trigger?

In addition could you please share the value of the stray capacitance of pin X1?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

BR,

  • Hi Fax,

If an external clock source is to be used, we usually see a can oscillator be used (3.3V output).  This can then be fed into X1.

If it is decided to use something like what is described in szza043, I'd recommend utilizing Schmitt-trigger buffers.  This would especially be true if the clock was being fed to multiple devices.  The output of your buffer should be designed & verified to adequately meet the F28374S datasheet specifications.

I don't believe we have characterized data specifying the stray capacitance of X1, however I do not expect it to be significant.

    Hopefully this helps.

    Thank you,
    Brett
