DRV8301-HC-C2-KIT: Setting the duty cycle to 1.00 with no load

Part Number: DRV8301-HC-C2-KIT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INSTASPIN-BLDC

Hello,

I am trying to run the InstaSpin-BLDC GUI on the DRV8301-HC-C2-KIT at 100% or 1.00 duty cycle with no load. I am able to get the motors, I have tried three different ones, to easily run with the software. I can get each to 0.92, but with any increase the motor stops and the Fault Status goes red. I am able to go to 1.00 duty cycle if I provide a load however. Is there any setting or change I can make to get there with no load?

Thanks,

Robert Bowers

  • Since the control mode is "Duty Cycle", the motor is running with voltage control without speed close loop, so the motor will up to very higher speed than the motor maximum speed without any load, it's difficult to get a correct BEMF zero cross point for commutation. You can decrease the input voltage if you want to run the motor using 100% duty without any load.

  • I tried varying the input voltage both down to around 8 V and up to around 40 V, but it is the same no matter what. Without a load, the max duty cycle I can get is still only 0.92.
