tms320f28335: The DSP F28335 doesn't comunicate with the SFRA GUI

Part Number: TMS320F28335
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28335, SFRA, CONTROLSUITE

I am trying to operate my DSP TMS320F28335 with the SFRA GUI, that peforms the sweep frequency of a converter. I read that the code should be changeg to include some files and identifiers and functions into the code. I was reading the user manual, but I am not getting do it. So, someone here got before? I would like na example how I configure and/or change the code to comunicate with the SFRA GUI. I was triyng, but it happened many problems on building the project, such compilations errors and others.

Thank you.

  • You can import the project and look at code that has SFRA code already in it.

    C:\ti\controlSUITE\development_kits\BOOSTXL_BUCKCONV\v1_01_00_00\Buck_VMC_F2837xS

There is an inexpensive kit you can buy that allows you to do everything.

Note: You need a 9 Volt power supply  LAUNCH-XS-BUCKCONV: $83.99

    http://www.ti.com/tool/LAUNCHXL-F28377S

  • Ok, but when I imported the example, appeared : " Error: Import failed for project 'Buck_VMC_F2837xS' because its compiler definition is not available. Please install the C2000v6.4 compiler before importing this project.
    "
My CCS version is the Version: 5.5.0.00077. What I should do?
  • Install CCS V7.2.0

    https://www.programmablesolution.com/free-tools

I have a link to it at this site.

  • I had the version 6.2 and I installed it.
The manual said that the files was tested in version 6 or later. The problems are: I should set correctly the .cmd file to the F28335. Beside this, I should change the ROM location to IQmath and modifications to SCI to communicate correctly with the SFRA GUI from Texas. So, there are many configurations to do to into tms320f28335 and I don't know how I do them. Did someone get with the F28335?
  • You could buy a LAUNCHXL-F28377S for $29.99 and save yourself a lot of trouble.
You could just look at the files of the BOOSTXL project to see what they did and make the corresponding changes in the project you have.
Is the TMS320F28335 a custom card, control card or launchpad?
What are you going to scan. If you don't already have something, perhaps the cheapet option is the $83.99 option mentioned in a previous post.

Here is a link to the SFRA User's Guide

Adding SFRA to a project can be done with perseverance.

    I added it to a HVPSFB_VMC project F28069.

It took a while to get it working.

  • The mine is the controlCard TMS320F28335 experimenter kit. I bought it from the texas for these purposes and other around control systems. You are correct: ...F28377S can be a good cheaper solution , but from Texas it is unvaliable. I put it into my cart and it appeared limited and unchecked.
I think that someone in the world did what I am trying to do with the common TMS320F28335 device. I think that it is not impossible. I tried what you said but instead the device F28377S, I was trying to change the F28069 project example to my dsp. Thank you for attention. You helped me. But if someone here knows do what I wish so much, I will thank so much more ever.
  • Sirs, I would like by some way get a simple example to operate the dsp tms320f28335 experimenters kit (that cost more than $99). We have a team with this dsp. Every one in our team needs do the frequency response analyze for the power converter. So, If someone here give us at least one way to get a simple code to f28335 with the SFRA GUI, we will thank so much. Perhaps, in the future, we could buy more pieces for this dsp.
  • Francisco,

Unfortunately we will not be able to provide you the code,

What i would recommend is you take a known project of F28335 like blinking LED and follow the UG step by step for integration of SFRA and SFRA GUI.

One key thing to note is the F28335 does not have JTAG on the control card so you will need to use the docking station and for the SCI to work you will need to populate the J9 jumper on the docking station.

I would suggesting breaking down the issue into smaller pieces that people can help you with.

    1. Compiler errors
    2. Functional errors
    3. GUI connection errors

and hopefully when you provide more detail we can advise you better
  • Ok, Manish Bhardwaj, thank you very much for your attention. I will try later. I have the control card, and yes, the jumper J9 was connected, and the switch sw1 was put in off position.  I got before the sci comunication working with the computer with sucessful in another aplication with J9 connected and sw1 in off position. At the moment, I haven't time sufficiently to try. But, I will try. If someone has that code, it will save our time so much. Thank you everybody.
