TMS320F28069M: How to make my micro-controller cooler?

Hi,

I noticed that the MCU on my custom board gets warm during the normal operation. I'm using 2 PWM output signal, two input ADC channels, two LEDs and CAN communications. The MCU is warm even if I don't have any output but two blinking LEDs. Is there anyway to run the MCU cooler? Can I decrease the frequency clock and/or disable the other ADC channels to run it more efficiently?

Hi Kash,

Please see the section labelled "Reducing Current Consumption" in the F2806x datasheet (currently section 5.6.1). This should give you some ideas.

After the C2000 device comes out of reset most of the peripheral clocks are not enabled. However, note that many of the example projects utilize F2806x_SysCtrl.c (or similar) - and this file turns on all peripheral clocks.

Kash,

Reducing the operating frequency should help.

Heat is often dissipated through the device pins (esp through thermal pads where available) when plastic packaging is used. A continuous ground plane can also help to sink heat through the board.

Kash,

A continuous ground plane would be something like a solid region of copper pour on a board layer that is connected to the device thermal pad and VSS pins.
