DRV8301-HC-C2-KIT: Questions

Part Number: DRV8301-HC-C2-KIT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301, MOTORWARE, CONTROLSUITE

Hi team,

Regarding DRV8301-HC-C2-KIT:

  1. Can the motor drivers be used for sensored FOC control, be used with a shaft position sensor with sine and cosine output (Revolver type) ?
    1. From the application note, we know that the motor driver can drive a sensored BLDC with the eQEP (Enhanced Quadrature Encoder Pulse) module but the example shown is 3 hall sensors type.
  2. If yes, please kindly suggest the hardware configuration for this setup by providing a reference design of  an eQEP (Enhanced Quadrature Encoder Pulse) module ?  .
  3. Is there any library or marco support available for speed estimation for the revolver type position sensor?
  4. Is the software provided with the motor driver able to support either Trapezoidal control or pure sinusoidal control?

Any motor driver kits that can support the following below:

·        Trapezoidal control and/or  sinusoidal control

·        Output current more than 75A

·        Also able to support brushed motor control.

·        Has design reference or configuration that includes driving a sensored BLDC with a sine cosine angle sensor

Any motor driver kits that can support the following below:

1)      Trapezoidal control and/or  sinusoidal control

2)      Output current more than 75A

3)      Also able to support brushed motor control.

4)      Has design reference or configuration that includes driving a sensored BLDC with a sine cosine angle sensor

  • The DRV8301 can be used with sensored position control using a resolver. Please look into the InstaSPIN-MOTION examples in Motorware to get an idea if this will work for your application.

We do not currently have any kits that support 75A or greater output. For brushed motor control, please take a look in the Motor Driver BU portfolio of products.

  • Hi Sean,

Thanks. The user guide is helpful but can you help on the specific questions? Thanks.

  • What motor are you or your customer using, and what position sensor does the motor use finally?

The answer of all your questions can be found in TI controlSUITE, not a single project can support all position sensors, there are different example projects show how to implement sensored FOC with encoder, resolver...
For question 1,2 and 3, you can find the example code in "\controlSUITE\development_kits\TMDSIDDK_v2.0\IDDK_PM_Servo_F2837x_v2_00_00_00" and related guide in "\controlSUITE\libs\app_libs\position_manager\v01_02_00_00" if you installed the controlSUITE software.
For question 1, Trapezoidal control example can be found in "\controlSUITE\development_kits\DRV830x-HC-C2-KIT_v105\InstaSPIN_BLDC", sinusoidal FOC can be found in "\controlSUITE\development_kits\DRV830x-HC-C2-KIT_v105\PM_Sensorless"

What input voltage is the motor? There is no EVM kit supported such high current as Sean replied, but the reference example projects for BLDC can be found in controlSUITE as above folders.
  • Dear all,

This is Kar Foong, the one who ask for Pengyu's help on clarify our doubts as shown in the OP. We are also glad to be able to receive sample from Pengyu, and currently trying to operate it.

To clear some of the questions asked by Yanming:

We are using BLDC motor (650W, 12V, ~60A) with revolver type sensor (magnetic sensor with Sin/Cos output signal) for accurate position sensing. From the application note, we understood that the kit (DRV8301-HC-C2-KIT) allows FOC control with 3 hall sensors method or even sensorless method. But we would like to know how would be the setup, if we have the Sin/Cos output signal for the position sensors. We would appreciate if there is any application note on this topic.

In addition, we are facing some issue on using the Motorware. We are not able to see the left control panel on the Motorware, as shown in figure below:

I have check online and found similar post (Link) on this issue. However, the problem does not solved even if I tried to uninstall and reinstall the Motorware, as suggested in the post.

    To provide more information:

    Motorwave installer version: v1.01.00.18

My Java version: version 8, update 112

Window version: Window 7 Enterprise, SP1

We really appreciate if you can help on this issue. Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Kar Foong
