Compiler/LAUNCHXL-F28379D: UART communication on F28379D

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28379D

Tool/software: TI C/C++ Compiler

Hello

I want to implement the UART communication on F28379D launchpad based on sci echoback example, what is the maximum speed of transferring data from the board to the computer?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Amin

  • Hi Amin,

From the device TRM section on SCI baud rate calculation:

"LSPCLK/16 is the maximum baud rate. For example, if LSPCLK is 120MHz, then the maximum baud rate
    is 7.5Mbps."

The maximum LSPCLK from the datasheet of the F2837xD device family is 200MHz.

If you have a physical serial port on the PC you may need to reduce the baud rate beyond this theoretical maximum depending on how fast your transceivers and serial port are. If you plan on using the virtual COM port in the XDS100 emulation, you may need to go read the datasheet for the FTDI chip to determine the maximum speed the virtual com port supports.
  • Hi Devin,

    Thanks for your help.
Is there a practical example for using a virtual COM port? Can I use the sci echoback(for virtual COM port) example, but with a slight change in the TX and RX pins?

    Best regards,
    Amin
  • Hi Amin,

The virtual COM port on the F28377D uses SCIA on GPIO42 and GPIO43. The echoback example uses the same module, but muxed onto GPIO28 and GPIO29, so it should only be necessary (as you suggest above) to change the pin muxing to get this example to work through the virtual COM port.
  • Hi Devin,

    Thanks for your help.

    Amin
