LAUNCHXL-F28069M: Ethernet or EtherCAT Communication?

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28069M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8305, LAUNCHXL-F28379D, , DESIGNDRIVE, INSTASPIN-BLDC, CONTROLSUITE

TI Team,

we are using your F28069M Launchpad and the DRV8305 booster packs for dual motor control.

I am quite impressed by the torque control performance.

The CAN communication is a bottle neck for our application.

We were wondering if you are planning to add Ethernet or Ethercat communication to this board in the near future?

Thank you and best wishes,

Felix

  • Felix,

    Thank you for the praise!
We do not plan on adding Ethernet or EtherCAT to this specific board. However, we do provide additional options. The LAUNCHXL-F28379D is the latest LaunchPad showcasing our high performance Delfino line of MCUs. (www.ti.com/.../LAUNCHXL-F28379D)

There is also a TI Design using the LAUNCHXL-F28379D with and ET1100 EtherCAT device with the full software and design files available for download. You can find this here: www.ti.com/.../TIDM-DELFINO-ETHERCAT

All of the code you have running on the LAUNCHXL-F28069M and DRV8305 is fully compatible with the LAUNCHXL-F28379D with minimal porting necessary.

    Happy coding!

  • Hi Mark,

I'm working with Felix, and we have a quick question:
We've been using the instaSPIN-FOC on the Piccolos, and from an old post (e2e.ti.com/.../238908, see ChrisClearman's answer) it seems that only the instaSPIN-BLMC is supported on the Delfino, can you confirm this?

We're planning on getting an evalutation board to try it out, but if you have a ready answer that would be very helpful and save us some time : ).

    Best,
    Steve
  • InstaSPIN-FOC and InstaSPIN-MOTION are only supported on specific Piccolo class products with motor control libraries in on-chip ROM.

The high performance Delfino devices do not support InstaSPIN-FOC and -MOTION.  They can run InstaSPIN-BLDC, but very few if any do. -BLDC is much simpler and doesn't require Delfino type performance. Delfino customers are typically motor control experts and are doing higher performance sensorless AC drives, servo drives, or even multi-axis systems.  They use our baseline controlSUITE motor control blocks as a starting point, take advantage of our DesignDRIVE solutions for industrial drives, use simulation and code gen tools, or create all of their own motor control IP themselves.
