Getting started with Matlab and TI C2000

Hello,

I'm interested in evaluating the TI C2000 fixed point DSP solution with Matlab's simulink target program. I've looked at the ezDSP boards, but they are too complex and pricey for an initial evaluation. Is there an alternative solution or board that I could evaluate from?

Hi Alex,

Take a look at Picollo (TMS320F28027), you can use it with matlab.

Thanks for the quick reply. I looked at that, but the board costs $500. I was hoping for something a bit less expensive. I could probably justify that purchase for development, but not evaluation.

I can't seem to figure out if there is an alternative to the ezDSP board line, or if I can just use any old development board.

I´m using this piccolo with matlab https://estore.ti.com/TMDX28027USB-TMX320F28027-Piccolo-controlSTICK-P1464.aspx (u$s 39)

If you have matlab 2010a, in the command windows, write C2000lib and you'll see the targets that matlab supports

Does this board support the ADC and RTDX functions? It seems to me that you've tried this before.

Hi Alex,

Yes it does. Just write c2000lib into the command window and you'll see all the availables blocks (http://www.mathworks.com/products/target-package/?s_cid=0909_webg_9b_c2000_trans_268513).

I don't think that it does support RTDX out of the box, because It has onboard XDS100 JTAG interface which doesn't support RTDX. But I could be wrong.

Are you using the free version of code composer studio in tandem with matlab? My issues are:

1) The CCS free version seems to have a 32kb program size limit -> will that affect the matlab version

2) With the board that you suggested, do you use a custom board in matlab (the little hardware diagram that you drop in that looks like a PCI card)?

...No, i´m using the free version (Limited to 32 Kb) and it doesn´t affect matlab

..No, is not a custom board. The target I use is for RAM application, please go to matlab help for target applications. You must tell to matlab what kind of target are you gonna use, in this case I use the piccolo target for RAM applications. If you want to use Flash you must use the target for Flash applications. You have target for F28335, F2812, F2802x.

All this appear in the Matlab help, please go and check it.

Recall there is also a version of CCS that is FREE and has no code limit, you just have to use the XDS100 emulator.
