TMDSEMU100V2U-14T: No Longer Orderable

Hi E2E,

A customer has been using TMDSEMU100V2U-14T for years and needs to order more, but this is no longer orderable. I see we recommend TMDSEMU110-U as a replacement but the customer mentioned they are working with TMS320C28X. I'm no expert in these parts so I'm not sure if this replacement is okay. If you have thoughts, let me know. If not, I can wait for the customer to continue this post and add more info.

Yes, the replacement emulator is compatible with C28x. Are they seeing any issues with it?

Richard,

They have not ordered yet. They either want to order the old part (which is probably not an option) or, before they order the new part, make sure the new part is pin-for-pin and will work with their parts.

Sam,

Both emulators connect through the standard 14-pin JTAG header.

Hi Samuel,

Richard is completely correct. The XDS110 should work, no problem. And it will have higher performance, so it's the better option, generally.

However, if there's a desire to really only have one tool for consistency in a production line (etc), they can still order that exact xds100v2 debug probe directly from Spectrum Digital:

The XDS110 indeed has the same pin number with TMDSEMU100V2U-14T, but the pin for foolproof isn't on the same place .
One is on pin 7, one is on pin 5. So I will choose the original emulator.

Lai,

Something is wrong somewhere. Are you are referring to the "key" pin - i.e. the pin which is removed on the 14-pin PCB header? If so, it must be pin 7. Which emulator and connector are you saying has pin 5 as the key?

Hi Richard,

Sorry, the emulator I am looking for is the key pin on number 6.
I uploaded two pictures show the difference between these two emulator.
I think the key pin is not on the same pin.
If there is any misunderstanding, please tell me.

Thank you for clarifying. I also was wrong: the first diagram in your latest post is the standard TI 14-pin connection. It is pin 6 (not 7) which is the key. If you are using a C2000 development board with a JTAG connector, this is the connection you have.

The user's guide for the XDDS110 probe shows in the list in 1.5 that this connector is supplied (penultimate item), so it will be OK:
