Compiler/TMS320F28069M: What is the WORD size in C2000 , 32 bit controllers

Hello ,

I am using the TMS320F28069m controller, this is 32 bit CPU , then i thought word will be 32 bits , but in many TMS320F2806x technical documents they give the WORD size is 16bits

The minimal data accesses by the CPU is 16 bits , then what is word size actually ?, is it the minimum data that computer can access or the architecture of the CPU ?

i am confusing , can any one explain ..

Sainath,

For C2000 word size is considered as 16bit because minimum access size is 16bit. So when you define a variable as int, it's 16bit variable and not 32bit.

thanks for replaying , but i read many on-line docs they saying that if 32 bit cpu then word size will be 32bits if its 64 bit cpu word size will be 64 bits , then why this is varying with least possible memory ?

This is just a naming convention and how it's been defined. What is important to understand is how variables are defined.
