Looking for recomendations on MCU for Automations

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8701

Hi, im new on this comunity and i have little knowledge on TI MCU's. Im looking for recomended MCU's for relatively complex gate automations. I've a project i wich i intend to design an universal board for use in control of motors and sensing for swinging gates, sliding gates, garage doors, industrial doors, road barriers, etc. I need my board to support wireless bluethoot or wifi conection and simple visualization. Sould i use a C2000 MCU or a SimpleLink one? Is it a specific MUC wich you think would be suitable for my project? Thanks for your help

  • Hello,

If you are looking for integrated BLE or Wifi communication on the MCU, then it would be best to go with a device from the SimpleLink portfolio.

A SimpleLink MCU + a motor driver from TI's portfolio would likely be adequate for an application such as opening/closing a gate or door. You can find an example of this sort of setup in this evaluation module, which uses an MSP430 MCU and a DRV8701 gate driver to control a brushed DC motor.

Because you need wireless connectivity in your application, it would make sense to select an MCU from the SimpleLink portfolio that best meets those requirements, depending on if you will be using Bluetooth or Wifi based communication. Hope this helps.

    Best,
    Sheena
