TMS320F28027: Can TMS320F28027 counts high-speed pulses?

Part Number: TMS320F28027
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28035

I used TMS320F28035 's eQEP module to make a  counter,dealing with a up to 200Khz pulse.Now i want to use 28027 instead,since it has no eQEP module,can it brings this counter function out?

  • Hi there!

    This is an interesting question. The QEP is added to count this exact sort of thing. I have a few comments and questions:
    - What are you counting? is it a Quadrature pulses?
    - Do you need up and down counting?

    If the signal was slower, you might be able to use XINTs. However, I am assuming that you are doing some sort of control, so counting edges with an interrupt may not be efficient.

    There is one potential solution that will only work if you are only counting one signal, and only care about counting up. Essentially, you set up the XCLKIN as the clock source for CPU Timer 2. Every clock edge will increment the counter. you can create interrupts based on this counter. This is a thread that covers the topic. Its very recent, and unfortunately the solution is only living on E2E. but if this is the solution you are looking for, the details should all be there.

  • thanks mark;

    1,it‘’s not for a quadrature pulses,just for single channel pulse.

    2.I do not need up and down counting, down edge counting is usually  prefered.

    3.it's step motor applycation ,receive a pulse then the motor make a move.Using a  interrupt will be unacepptable.

    4.thank you for your suggestion,It does help me a lot,I'll try it as soon as possible.

    Also, I mispoke, the CPU Timer is a down-counter. It is still one-direction, but counting down.

    Please follow up in the future if you have additional questions.
