CCS/TMS320F28069M: Does Tms320f28069M supports CAN Fd?

Part Number: TMS320F28069M

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello

I have a board TMS320F28069M.Now i am coding through Matlab i want to see the software variables in real time.So i planning for CAN communication between Ti and simulink so that i can see real time waveform. So i am planning to buy PCAN FD from peak systems. I want to know whether TMS320f28069M supports CAN FD? If it doesn't can i go for normal CAN usb?

Thank You

  • Hi Vigneshwar,

CAN FD is not supported on this device. CAN module on this device supports below -
    >>Complies with ISO11898-1 ( Bosch® CAN protocol specification 2.0 A and B)

  • Vigneshwar,
F28069 does not support CAN-FD. If CAN-FD is critical for your application, TI has now come up with a new device (not in production yet). This stand-alone chip is a SPI-CANFD bridge. See www.ti.com/.../TCAN4550-Q1. This is an ideal solution for c2000 devices that do not support an on-chip CAN-FD module.

Any CAN bus analyzer that is capable of decoding CAN-FD frames should be capable of decoding CAN frames as well. Analyzers that decode CANFD frames tend to be more expensive than the ones that can decode only CAN frames. The bigger question you should answer is whether you really need the bandwidth of CANFD, or if CAN would suffice. Buying an analyzer that can decode CAN-FD frames is meaningless if you don’t have hardware capable of generating CANFD frames, unless you are buying it with future needs in mind.
  • Thank you Hareesh and Vijay . I will go for normal CAN connection instead of CAN FD.
