DRV8301-69M-KIT: Shorted pins due to solder

Part Number: DRV8301-69M-KIT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301

I'm having issues with my board due to what looks like a drop of solder between GL_B and SL_B (pins 39 and 40) on the DRV8301. I have confirmed the short by observing the gate voltage of the low side phase B FET to be stuck at ground while running the motor identification routine in the InstaSPIN_MOTION GUI. The board instantly faults when I run this.

I received the board a week ago. What should I do?

  • Jason,

I am sorry that you have had an issue with a new board.

Please confirm that you have not made any modifications to the board before this short appeared.
Please send me the Label information that should be on the box the kit came in. A picture is fine.

Can you remove the short on your own? Please do so if you can, and then try out the function. hopefully there is not any permanent damage.

    Thanks.

  • Mark,

I have not modified the board in anyway. It is still in the same condition as when I took it out of the box.

I do not have much experience or tools for handling surface mount electronics. I'd be willing to try, but not at the risk of voiding the warranty of the board.

  • Jason,

I understand your hesitation on modifying the board yourself.
Depending on how you purchased the board there are different approaches to take. Please choose the appropriate path for your situation.
