TMS320F28232: Replacing a TMS320LF2407 by TMS320F28232

Part Number: TMS320F28232
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28075

Dear All,

TMS320F28232 part is described as an TMS320LF2407 replacement alternative (even if not equivalent), so my question is about the life cycle of this alternative part. The documentation was created in 2007, so the part is not a very recent one.

Does it make sens to redesign from TMS320LF2407 to TMS320F28232, and what could be the expect life time of this redesign ?

Can someone share experience on porting a project from TMS320LF2407 to TMS320F28232 ?

Best regards,

David

  • David,
This part was recommended because it was the lowest cost / newest device at the time that included an EMIF, which is the main reason someone would be using LF2407 vs. LF2406. It's still valid, but you're right regarding life cycle. TMS320F28075 may be a better option as it is essentially brand new, using latest process technology and peripherals, features, etc.

If you don't need an EMIF there are many other options that could be used.

In general, if starting a new design we would recommend
    Delfino: TMS320F2837xD or 37xS www.ti.com/delfino
    Piccolo: TMS320F2807x or TMS320F28004x www.ti.com/piccolo

Porting from LF2407 depends on if you wrote in assembly (which was common then) or C. It's a significant effort either way.
