I am trying to use the SPI Interface of the f28m36 device from the concerto family to interface with an LCD. I was hoping to get a framework as a reference to start my coding. Basically looking for an example other than the loopback one in the resource explorer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

That's all available in controlSuite. You can browse the forum for SPI - LCD or SPI - eeprom or SPI - external ADC interface modules.

Other than an SD card example for the M3's SSI, we don't really have any SPI examples that aren't loopback. The code still should be pretty similar when not in loopback mode. Let me know if you're having trouble adapting the examples though.

I am using the loopback example as a framework to start talking to the LCD. I have a few follow up questions and I will appreciate any insight you can share with me.

1) I am only attempting to write to the LCD. I have already made all the necessary hardware connections. I am not sure what use I can make of the FIFO registers? I am planning to write one byte at a time to the LCD.

2) Also is it possible to accomplish this task via c28 alone. without using the M3 processor.

1. The FIFO is good for when you need to send a several bytes at a time without the overhead of waiting for one to send before initiating next. If your application doesn't require a lot of back-to-back messages, you should be fine without the FIFO.

2. Since the M3 is the master CPU, you'll still need it to setup clocks, enable pins, bring the C28 out of reset, etc...but after that device initialization, the actual operation of the SPI won't require any interaction with the M3.
