TMS320F280049: InstaSPIN-Motion on TMS320F0049M device

Part Number: TMS320F280049
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DESIGNDRIVE

I just received the answer for "Thread - Where to get 004x familiy devices?", thank you Mike!

There the reply was, that InstaSPIN Motion is not planned to be supported by the TMS320F28004x family.
Thats really too bad ... but I have a little bit of hope, finding the prototype version of TMS320F0049M on Mouser

But the link to the datasheet returns an empty page: http://www.ti.com/general/docs/lit/getliterature.tsp?genericPartNumber=tms320f280049m&fileType=pdf

And the "everything" search on TI website also has a broken link: http://www.ti.com/product/tms320f280049m/description?keyMatch=tms320f280049m&tisearch=Search-EN-Everything

Is it planned for XF280049MPMS that it goes to full production as TMS320F280049M?

Thank you for reply!

Regards
Christoph

  • Hi Christoph,

Unfortunately, F28004x devices will not support InstaSPIN-MOTION, nor will any other C2000 device in the foreseeable future

    Sean
  • to clarify, InstaSPIN-MOTION will continue to be supported on existing Piccolo F2806xM and F2805xM devices, but due to strategy change by both companies we will not be offering on any other C2000 series.

  • Hi Chris and Sean,

thank you both for this clear answer!

So InstaSPIN Motion would not be a solution to start building upon.
That's a real pity, because we evaluated it and found it's a great solution.
It brings hard to achieve features to the not specialist and with very fast implementation time too.
We don't understand why this has not spread widly over the market.
It's the solution smaller companies are looking for, not having all the specialists and the money.

What alternative approach would TI recommend to achieve InstaSPIN Motion like features?
Is there a strategy of TI on the new Piccolo family of devices that would enable a broader community than experts to implement good motion control (not only sensor less FOC)?

    Thank you!

    Regards
    Christoph

  • Many customers have used MOTION already, but I understand if you want to choose a software solution that will be portable to future devices.

The change is based on strategy decisions at TI and LineStream.

As another path we would point you to www.ti.com/DesignDRIVE

At this point DesignDRIVE is tuned towards those with some industrial drives experience, but we will be looking to enhance the solution further in the future with some new ease of use items.
