TMS320F280041: F280041 On-chip Vreg to Output 2.4v when Operation

Part Number: TMS320F280041

Hi, Champs,

My customer is using F280041 for OBC design, and there's a problem when operation.

They used on-chip Vreg (not DC/DC) to generate 1.2v Vdd and it works well, but recently one of their products ran out of control when the controller power stage was increasing to the meant power grade, and then they found the Vdd pin was measured at 2.4v.

There's no further information can be provided since they also failed to capture the waveforms, while the schematic is on my hand but it's not meant to disclosure it here - it's fine to share if you need check privately.

Can anyone advise what should we check or verify?

Best Regards,

Ricky Zhang

  • Hi Ricky,

Likely the 2.4V on VDD is a symptom of EOS or ESD damage that occurred during operation and not due to an issue with the VREG specifically. This seems to especially be true since you said the system power was rising when the issue occurred. They might test if any of the GPIO or Analog pins are drawing excessive leakage current or otherwise appear damaged.

They aren't powering anything else on the board off of the 1.2V rail?
  • Devin,

    Thanks for your response.

I have communicated with customer and since the damage part has been already replaced with a new one on board, there's no way to get it tested again with that specific condition, so they will try to do that next time once it occurs again.

    Best Regards,
