F28M35H52C: F28M35 Experiment Kit Analog input (DAC) pin access

Part Number: F28M35H52C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

Hi all,

The datasheet says that the chip can be configured to up to 16 analog input and ADC pins that can be used are ADC1/2 A0,A2, A3, A4, A6, A7, B0, B3, B4, B7.

Meanwhile, the experiment board has the pinout of A0-A7 and B0-B7. Is there any documents saying how those pins on are connected to the pins of F28M35?

Because I need 14 of the inputs but I don't think I can access all of them.

Thank you.

Regards,

Andrew

  • Andrew,

Yes, you should have access to 14+ ADC signals.

You can reference the schematics from controlSUITE and match up the signal mapping:

    \controlSUITE\development_kits\~controlCARDs\CCF28M35xxHWdevPkg_v3\
    \controlSUITE\development_kits\~ExperimentersKits\DIM100ExperimentersKit-HWdevPkg_v2_0\

Note that the headers are 180 degrees rotated between the two documents.

  • Hi Tommy

Thanks for the fast reply, with some experiment I am able to use all the pins from the docking station. But this is quite confusing as some "A" pins will be represented by "B" port in the software. I am using Simulink by the way.

I have some general questions on how to operate this board, I will list out if it is ok to list it here.

    1. Is it right that if I am using H52C control card standalone I will have to use both usb ports (micro and mini) but if am using docking station I only need to use one usb port that is on the station?

    2. Simulink does not provide CAN function for F28M3x device but for other F28x , by any chance if you know they are interchange able? (not sure if you know this one)

    3. If not, can you please tell me brifely how CAN work on this device. e.g. does CAN signal trigger external interrupt first?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks a lot

Yes, this particular controlCARD is confusing because it has a unique ADC implementation that does not comply with the scheme of the legacy 100-pin docking station.

    Possibly.

The USB-mini port is connected to the on-board, isolated XDS100 that is enabled by default.  The on-board XDS100 can be used while the controlCARD is docked.  If you want to use the XDS100 on the docking station instead, you will need to rework the 0Ω resistors of the JTAG signals on the controlCARD.

The USB-micro port is connected to the USB data port of the F28M3x.  By design, the controlCARD is expecting 5V from the DIMM header, which is made available to the USB-micro port.  However, there is a shunt diode that will shunt voltage from the USB-micro port back to the controlCARD.  It should be possible to to provide 5V to the controlCARD through the USB-micro rather than through the docking station.

The older C28x devices use eCAN, while the newer devices use D_CAN.  Unfortunately, the two CAN modules have incompatible programming architectures so the functions are most likely not interchangeable.

I would recommend reading through the CAN chapter in the TRM and then asking CAN questions in a new thread.  This will help you to engage the right experts.
