TMS320F28069: replacing PZPS parts with PZT : any issues ? difference ?

Part Number: TMS320F28069

Hello everybody ,

please I m using F28069   and need  just 105 Degrees .      in one design  I qualified and designed for   PZPS devices  .

can I mount in same  PCB  the 105  device    PZT  ?

do you see any issue ?     my concern is in particular on powerpad  , I m not able to see if it is the same on the 2 packages .

any other issue you can see ?

thank you

regards

Carlo

  • Carlo,

The ...PZPS part uses the PZP package with PowerPad. The ...PZT part uses the the PZ package without the PowerPad. The PowerPad only serves to remove heat, all other pins have identical functions between these two devices. Therefore it is OK to use the PCT device in a board designed for PZPS device as long as 105 deg C is not exceeded.

  • Hi Peter ,
    please any other difference ?
    thank you

  • Carlo,

These parts are functionally identical, the only difference is operating temperature. The only other thing I can think of in your case would be how you dispense the solder paste during the board assembly process. You might want to modify the solder stencil to prevent the board pad (that would normally be soldered to the PowerPad) from being covered by solder paste. Since your new part has no PowerPad, there is nothing there to be soldered, and the solder blob under the package may or may not have some effect on the package ( I don't know, so it is better to play it safe by not having any solder there)
